Pixel art dithering tool

How it works

  1. Upload an image (photo or pixel art)
  2. Choose dithering algorithm and color count
  3. Preview the result and download

Dithering algorithms

  • Floyd-Steinberg — error-diffusion for smooth gradients
  • Ordered (Bayer 4×4) — classic retro pattern look
  • Ordered (Bayer 8×8) — larger pattern, more visible texture
  • Adjustable color count from 2 to 32 colors

FAQ

What is dithering?

Dithering is a technique that creates the illusion of more colors by arranging limited colors in patterns. It's widely used in retro games and pixel art.

Which algorithm should I choose?

Floyd-Steinberg produces smoother results that look like the original. Ordered dithering creates a more obvious pattern that looks intentionally retro.

How many colors should I use?

2–4 colors gives a very retro Game Boy look. 8–16 colors is typical for NES/SNES-era pixel art. 24–32 preserves more detail.
